Better-than-Takeout Sweet and Spicy Chinese Stir-fry

If you’ve ever craved Chinese takeout, you’ll swoon for this colorful stir-fry that’s similar to a Szechuan or Kung Pao chicken dish. The only thing missing is the freaky additives and preservatives.

This tasty entrée is spicy, tangy, sweet, and satisfying – and best of all, you don’t have to feel terrible for indulging!

Oh yeah, show me the recipe –>

Team-up Time

As much as I love doing my quiet blog thing here at Revisions of Grandeur, it’s fun to step out and work with others who are doing creativity in other ways — and I was lucky enough to do that twice this month.

The first fun project was a team-up with my friend Jenny over at Three Letter Birds to create these funny and sweet Mother’s Day cards. I conjured the words and she made them sing with her magical design eye.

Just Like Me Card –>

They turned out pretty wonderful, don’t you think?

The second collaboration was with another Jenny, the lovely and fearless editor of ForEveryMom, who kindly featured my essay about saying YES when you can. I’d love for you to give it a read this fine Monday morning and let me know what a YES looks like for you in the comments below.

If you’re a writer or other artsy type who feels the creative world can be a bit lonely, don’t forget all the others plugging away out there who might enjoy an ally. Reach out and team up, even for one day or one project.

Cheers, you artsy people,

Stacy

Oh, I’m on Instagram now too, but I have no idea what I’m doing. I feel like I just showed up to some hip soiree wearing mom jeans and carrying a Discman. You can follow me if you want, but I may be asked to leave at any moment.

Say YES When You Can

Tuesdays are, for the most part, my “home” days. I’ve been hitting the Rise and Shine spin class (at 5:15 am – eek!) so I can get home earlier and begin our homeschool day earlier. You know, that whole trying-to-make-the-best-use-of-our-time thing.

So this morn, I returned home at seven, showered up, loaded the dishwasher and was just about to line the boys up for the Pledge of Allegiance when the middle lad asked the question of the day.

“Will you play with me?”

Now I spend loads of time with my kids, so mom-guilt is pretty minimal around here, but you know what I don’t always love to do?

The Book Basket: And Then It’s Spring

Welcome to The Book Basket, a place for sharing seasonal reads and other literature we are enjoying in our home.

Reading to my three sons is hands-down my favorite thing to do with them. Reading time is bonding time and learning time rolled into one.  When we read together, we slow down, regroup, and connect.

It’s the best part of our day, every day.

I have a large collection of books sorted by season and theme that I rotate out every few months, and I’m always particularly happy to see this book when I reach for the spring stack…

This Land is Your Land: An Experienced Road Tripper’s Guide to Car Travel with Kids

When my siblings and I were kids, our family went on a BIG road trip about every summer — we’re talking two or three weeks on the road. Back then, I was clueless about all the preparation and effort my parents put in to make things run smoothly. Road trips aren’t always easy, but they ARE ripe with opportunity for family bonding and learning about the world beyond your backyard.

I hope these tips and recommendations help make your family road trips as enjoyable and memorable as they were for this crew in the rad nineties…

Grand Edits with Paula Conery and Mindy Thoreson-Sertich: Revising Life with Multiple Sclerosis

In honor of Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month, I am honored to share the stories of these two warriors from my own community.

Paula and Mindy, your spirit of hope has inspired many. I count myself blessed to know you both. Thank you for sharing your journey with us.

Paula’s Story

When Paula Conery went to the optometrist seeking relief for a case of optic neuritis in 1999, she had no idea she was on the path to uncovering a life-changing medical diagnosis. Paula was sent to a neurologist who ordered a spinal tap and an MRI that revealed multiple lesions indicative of multiple sclerosis.

“The neurologist came in and told me I had MS. For most people, it takes three documented attacks for a diagnosis. I was diagnosed just like that. I thought, ‘I don’t have MS! I play basketball. I run. I don’t have MS.’”

Seasons of Dating: Winter (The Toddler Years)

Greetings, y’all (or “yous guys” as they in my peninsula),

I have a new (and slightly spunky) post up today over at Her View from Home about dating during the small-child phase of life. I do hope you’ll read it even if you DON’T have kids — maybe even ESPECIALLY if you don’t have kids.

Darndest Things: Issue Five

March is a huge month for birthdays in our family – there are nine among our extended family. When Miles turned three a couple weeks ago, we dusted off the courage-for-immunizations talk.

Last Friday my six-year-old stood before the calendar and exclaimed, “Mom! It’s your birthday!” Suddenly his expression turned somber. “I’m sorry to say it’s your turn to be brave for shots.”

We’re trying not to let the dread of shots put a damper on our month, or the outlandish election year coverage around every media corner. I have to say, this promise from my friend Daniele’s daughter sounds a bit like some of the mumbo jumbo I’ve been hearing on the news lately…

“If I was the Presudent I wod sav are cuchreree.”
Save the cuchrerees!

Abby, you might just have my vote come November.

No, seriously.

Enjoy the rest of these quotes submitted by the parents of some truly hilarious kiddos.

Protecting Children from Sexual Abuse

I’m honored that a version of my essay, Not My Child: Protecting My Son from a Sexual Predator, is featured today on the MOPS International blog, Hello, Dearest.

For a writer, there is nothing more affirming than when the words of your heart encourage and empower others.

I’m grateful to Leslie Means at Her View from Home for creating the platform for the original story, and to the editors at Hello, Dearest for keeping this important conversation alive.

Thank you. ❤
