Made to Serve

Hello, friends!

I’m here with my coffee (brewed by my peach of a husband) and my waffle-requesting children, thinking about what it means to serve.

Let’s be honest, some people just don’t like the idea of serving. It conjures ideas of oppression and enslavement. But that’s not the kind of serving I’m talking about.

I’m referring to the serving that says, “For you, I will.” The serving that comes from a pure place of love and good intention.

I hope you’ll hop on over to Her View from Home and read my latest post about the two men who have inspired me to serve this week.

May your coffee be hot and abundant, darlings!

  1. Serving is a great thing, but sometimes, as a mother of two kids under 5, I’d love to have a day or so when I didn’t have to serve the rest of the world. Even on those mother’s day occasions where people are serving me, I still find myself doing things for the kids or my husband. Its those days when I miss single life before motherhood the most…when I didn’t have to consult anyone or plan anything just to do something that I want to do. I love my husband and my kids, but one of my favorite things I’ve ever done was decided instead of going to the movies to go to Disneyland. That NEVER could happen now due to all the preparations that would need to be done to make it happen. Back then things were more simple!

    1. I TOTALLY see your point here. There are plenty of moments when I just cannot fill another sippy cup.

Before having kids, I used to love helping in the church nursery. Once I had a few of my own and was in the THICK of it, I had to step away for a few years.

That’s the beauty of serving though — there are so many ways to make it happen. Right now, I serve on the steering committee for our local MOPS group. That means I sit around a table snacking with a bunch of fabulous women while planning fun outings for the group. Now that’s a type of “service” I can handle!

Here’s to the day we can run off on a whimsical vacation! For tonight, though, it’s back to the kitchen 😉
