While We Wait

Every time my husband and I bring our three young boys to the beach (or on any outing, really), the getting-ready basically plays out the same way. We wait until just before departure to tell them where we’re going because otherwise we get an umpteen-jillion questions about when we’re leaving. They streak through the dining room screaming “THE BEACH! THE BEACH!” until I’ve hollered forty-three times to get some UNDERWEAR ON.

Chad asks how he can best help “the process.”

  1. Out west, Oregon: Crater Lake, Mt Hood, Willamette Valley; beach to mountains to desert, nature, good wine…rain. Portland is a fun town. My favorite places: France! Holland! Italy! Stockholm. I love traveling, thanks for adding to my list!

  2. Love the new logo, and this is a great read. I love adventure/travel/hiking. When I saw Ovan Lake in a Nat Geo years ago, something about its exquisite beauty called my name, so I kept the photo in my scrapbook. It’s in northern Iran, not the most tourist-friendly area for a gal to go hiking, and with kids to raise, etc. that adventure might have to wait a long time. But who knows. Good things come to those who wait. I guess the better it is, the harder the wait.

    1. I looked up Ovan Lake, Brandy, and you’re right– it is gorgeous. I see what you were intrigued!

I, too, am drawn to water. Most of my adventures involve lakes, rivers, or at least a good puddle-jumping session. I don’t know where you’re located, but if you can ever get to the Great Lakes, you won’t be disappointed. I’m 90 miles from Superior and 40 miles from Michigan, and have biked, hiked, or backpacked many miles of Great Lakes shoreline. It may not be as exotic as Ovan Lake, but it’s closer, and kid-friendly too! Look up Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes and Pictured Rocks– two of my most favorite spots on Earth!

In the meantime, keep on dreaming of Ovan. There’s a reason it drew you in. You’ll get there some day!
